Canberra Catchup Recap

localAI Team

Thanks to everyone who came along to our first localAI catchup in Canberra! It was a relaxed afternoon at CMAG Cafe, with a good mix of people working across open source AI, edge computing, and everything in between.

The conversation ranged wide, from the EU AI Act and the rising cost of hardware, through to real world examples of running things locally and efficiently. There was plenty of energy around finding a shared language so future conversations can build on top of what's already been said, rather than starting from scratch each time.

One attendee, Balaji, was inspired enough by the "model farming" idea to write up his own take on it on LinkedIn, well worth a read if decentralized, on-premises AI is your thing.

There was also chatter about running a hands on workshop at CU to demo model farming in practice, so keep an eye out for that.

See you at the next one! We're looking at making it a talk or a workshop in Melbourne. Make sure to subscribe on Luma or join the chat to keep up to date.
